Abstract

Global warming become sensitive issue lately. This is because it has an extraordinary impact on humans, such as climate change, the melting of ice at the North and South Poles, also rising sea levels. One of the trigger is the greenhouse gases in the Earth's atmosphere that has been increasing in over the last 50 years, CO2. One way to address this problem is by capturing CO2 gases, then utilized directly or stored before used. There are four carbon capture methods which will be discussed: post-combustion, pre-combustion, oxyfuel, and a combination of Direct Air Capture and Biological Capture. The post-combustion method uses adsorbers/absorbers and strippers to capture CO2 from combustion gases. The pre-combustion method applies the principle of decarbonization to the fuel before use, so in this method, CO and H2 are separated, and only H2 gas is used for combustion. The third method is the oxyfuel method, which separates the N2 and O2 components in the air that will be used for combustion, so that pure O2 is used for combustion. The last method, which is one of the new innovations, is a method that combines Direct Air Capture and Biological Capture into a new method called CityCapt, which is used to capture carbon in ambient air. This method utilizes microalgae to capture CO2 in ambient air. Even though the method used has been around for a long time, the materials used in process is developed to be updated over time to increase the efficiency in process and results.
