Pusat Pengembangan Sumber Daya Manusia Minyak dan Gas Bumi terdapat kilang minyak kapasitas pengolahan 320 m3 per hari, hasil produk pengolahan kilang ini yaitu pertasol CA, pertasol CB, pertasol CC, solar, dan residu. Salah satu sarana alat yang digunakan dalam proses pengolahan adalah heat exchanger merupakan peralatan yang berfungsi untuk pertukaran energi antara aliran fluida berbeda suhu melalui kontak langsung maupun tidak langsung. Terdapat lima heat exchanger yang ada di kilang ini, salah satunya heat exchanger 03 (HE-03). Heat exchanger 03 ini sudah berumur maka perlu dilakukan penelitian dan analisis kelayakan perlatan ini. Dengan metode penelitian berupa studi lapangan dan studi pustaka, berupa pengambilan data kondisi operasi di Distributed Control System (DCS) dan secara riil data lapangan menggunakan Piping & Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) sehingga dapat menghitung fouling factor, pressure drop dan efisiensi heat exchanger 03.
Berdasarkan hasil perhitungan nilai Rd yang didapatkan pada Heat Exchanger 03 sebesar 0,1307 hr.ft2.oF/Btu. Besarnya nilai fouling factor (Rd) ini menunjukan adanya kotoran yang terakumulasi di dalam Heat Exchanger. Pressure Drop yang diperoleh pada shell yaitu sebesar 0.0003 Psí sedangkan pada tube sebesar 0,0005 Psi. Hasil perhitungan efektivitas kinerja Heat Exchanger 03 sebesar 83,77%. Dari hasil perhitungan menunjukan bahwa heat exchanger tersebut dinyatakan masih layak dioperasikan karena tidak melebihi standar batas yang diperbolehkan.
