Pemanfaatan energi secara efisien merupakan prioritas utama dalam industri migas, tujuannya untuk menekan biaya operasional, salah satu upaya tersebut dapat dilakukan dengan cara memanfaatkan panas hasil proses untuk memanaskan umpan sebelum dipanaskan di furnace, salah satunya menggunakan alat penukar panas (Heat Exchanger). Efektifitas dari heat exchanger dapat mengindikasikan kinerja dari proses pertukaran panas di heat exchanger, baik secara konveksi maupun konduksi. Seiring berjalannya waktu, efektifitas heat exchanger akan mengalami penurunan oleh fouling yang terbentuk dan hal-hal lain yang dapat mengurangi efektifitas dari heat exchanger tersebut. Melalui evaluasi kinerja dapat diindikasikan unjuk kerja dari alat penukar panas tersebut yang dapat digunakan untuk rencana perawatan maupun perbaikan kedepannya. Efektifitas termal dihitung menggunakan metode dirt factor dan pressure drop, dan diperoleh fouling factor operasi hasil perhitungan sebesar 0,002 Btu.ft2.°F /hr, kondisi ini masih dibawah batas maksimal desain yang diizinkan yaitu 0,005 Btu.ft2.°F/hr, sedangkan pressure drop hasil perhitungan sebesar 2,72 psi. kondisi ini masih dibawah batas maksimal dari desain yang diizinkan yaitu 10 psi, sehingga heat exchanger ini masih layak digunakan. Perhitungan terhadap efektifitas heat exchanger menghasilkan efektifitas sebesar 34,075%.
