Usaha untuk meningkatkan kinerja Energi peralatan pemanfaat energi secara maksimal sangat diperlukan karena akan mengurangi biaya energi, serta akan berdampak pada pengurangan emisi gas buang dan pemanasan global. Dalam penelitian ini dikembangkan suatu metoda optimasi untuk memaksimalkan kinerja energi furnace pada Kilang PPSDM Migas Cepu. Berdasarkan pengamatan dan pengukuran dan analisis perhitungan metoda langsung dan tidak langsung data operasi kilang tersebut, memperlihatkan bahwa kinerja Furnace 2 dan 3 memiliki efisiensi 47.26 % dan 49.81%. Hasil pengujian menggunakan metoda algoritma genetik diperoleh efisiensi Furnace 2 dan 3 meningkat menjadi 57.12 %. Metoda optimasi menggunakan algoritma genetic dalam penelitian ini menggunakan enam populasi. Populasi tersebut adalah parameter temperature crude oil, jumlah pasokan crude oil, jumlah bahan bakar yang digunakan diolah dengan proses seleksi kromosom, perkawinan silang dan mutasi secara berulang-ulang sehingga mendapatkan populasi terbaik. Populasi terbaik tersebut itulah yang akan menghasilkan nilai efisiensi Furnace terbaik yang mampu mengurangi kerugian energi sebesar 2904 KWH per hari utuk setiap Furnacenya.
